Dinosaur Birth Announcement Hanging Shelf Sign
Birth stats are the first story a baby has: the day, the minute, and the weight everyone asked about. This sign keeps them on display in the nursery. A friendly dinosaur, with spikes down its back and a long tail, stands at the back. In front of it are three nested arches, each one a little smaller and a little lighter green than the one behind it. The baby’s name is carved across the dinosaur, and the birth date, time, and weight are carved into the arches, one line on each.
The pieces stand one behind the other on a pine shelf that hangs from parachute cord like a small swing. Hang it from a wall or ceiling hook, or untie the cord and set the shelf on a dresser or bookshelf.

Materials and Construction
We lay out the design in our CNC software with the dinosaur and all three arches nested inside one another on a single 3/4-inch pine board, about 16 x 10 inches. The CNC carves the lettering with a 30-degree V-bit, then cuts along each outline so the four pieces come apart. Each piece is sanded and painted its own shade of green.
The shelf is cut from pine and sanded, and the parachute cord runs through holes drilled near each corner and is knotted underneath.

The Story Behind This Piece
We made the first one for our nephew, born in the early morning hours of November 2024. His mom told us he loved dinosaurs and that green was the main color in his room, so we painted it in three shades of green to match the glow-in-the-dark 3D printed name letters we also made for him. Common Questions
Can it sit on a dresser instead of hanging? Yes. Untie the parachute cord and the shelf works as a stand on a dresser or bookshelf.
Can I order this as a gift? Yes. Put the date you need it by in your order notes, and we can ship it straight to the new parents.
Can I see the layout before you build it? Yes. Ask for a digital proof in your order notes, and nothing is cut until you approve it.
Care and Keeping
This is an indoor piece. Dust it with a soft, dry cloth, and keep it away from moisture, steam, and long hours of direct sunlight, which can fade paint over time. Skip household cleaners and sprays; a dry or barely damp cloth is all it needs.
Hang it securely, out of reach of the crib. It is decor, not a toy.
Build Time, Shipping, and Delivery
Every piece is made to order. If you would like a digital proof of the layout and lettering before we build, ask for one in your order notes. Plan on 7 to 10 days for us to build and finish your piece. Shipping time is in addition to the build time.
If you have a firm date, such as a baby shower or a first birthday, tell us when you order. We will tell you honestly whether we can meet it. We do not guarantee rush work.
We pack every piece carefully for the trip. The shipping cost is shown at checkout. Local delivery to eligible Charleston-area ZIP codes (about 25 miles) is free on orders of $75 or more and $10 below that; checkout shows it when your ZIP code qualifies. We are a private shop, so we do not offer pickup or workshop visits.
Good to Know
- No two are alike: wood grain, knots, and brush marks vary from piece to piece, so yours will not match these photos exactly. That variation is the mark of a handmade piece, not a defect.
- These photos show a piece we made earlier: yours is built new, to your details.
- Personalized pieces are final sale: because they are built to your details, custom and personalized items cannot be returned. If anything arrives damaged, contact us with photos of the piece and packaging and we will make it right.
- Sales tax: A 7% sales tax is added at checkout.
