Faceted Hardwood Tea Light Holders
These began as a way to use beautiful offcuts, and quickly became a favorite. Each block is glued up with a band of dark walnut, then faceted on every corner and top edge, which gives a simple shape a jewel-like look. With a tea light lit, the warm wood glows.

They look at home year-round on a dining table, a mantel, or a bathroom shelf, and they dress up beautifully for the holidays. They make an easy hostess or teacher gift.

Materials and Construction
We glue a strip of walnut between two blocks of hardwood, square them up, and cut the facets on the table saw. The tea light recess is drilled with a Forstner bit, and each holder is sanded and finished with our furniture oil and wax.
Care and Keeping
This piece has an oil and wax finish that lets the grain show and the wood feel like wood. Dust it with a soft, dry cloth, and wipe up spills soon after they happen. Keep it out of standing water, away from harsh cleaners, and out of long hours of direct sun, which can fade the color over time. When the surface starts to look dry or dull, rub a small amount of furniture oil or wax into the wood with a clean cloth, let it sit a few minutes, and buff off the extra. Once or twice a year is plenty for most pieces.
Always use the tea light in its metal or plastic cup, and never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep it away from curtains and anything that can catch fire.
Build Time, Shipping, and Delivery
Every piece is made to order. After an order is placed, plan on a few days for us to build and finish the piece. Shipping time is in addition to the build time. A digital proof of the layout and lettering can be sent before we start when it is asked for in the order notes. A firm date, such as a retirement, birthday, or holiday, can be shared when ordering, and we will say honestly whether we can meet it; we do not guarantee rush work.
We pack every piece carefully for the trip, and shipping is calculated at checkout based on the delivery address. For orders of $75 or more within 25 miles of Charleston, West Virginia, free local delivery may be available. A gift can ship directly to the recipient when the details are shared. We are a private shop, so we do not offer pickup or workshop visits. Full order terms are at /terms-of-sale/.
Good to Know
No two are alike. Wood grain, color, knots, and figure vary from board to board, so the piece will not match these photos exactly. That variation is the mark of a handmade piece, not a defect. These photos show a piece we made earlier; each new piece is built to the order’s details.
Personalized pieces are final sale, because they are built to order, so custom and personalized items cannot be returned. If anything arrives damaged, contact us with photos of the piece and packaging and we will make it right. West Virginia sales tax applies to orders delivered in West Virginia.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an LED tea light be used? Yes. Battery-operated tea lights fit the same recess and are a great choice for a home with kids or pets.
Is it safe to burn a candle in wood? Standard tea lights in their metal cups keep the flame and wax off the wood, and a lit candle should never be left unattended.
Will the design be seen before it is made? If a proof is asked for in the order notes, one is sent showing the layout and lettering. We do not start cutting until it is approved, and reasonable changes before approval are included.
Can this be ordered as a gift? Yes. Note at checkout or in a message that it is a gift, and include the date it is needed by. We can ship directly to the recipient.
