Carved Wooden Keyboard Tribute Plaque

$175.00

Carved wooden keyboard tribute plaque for someone whose career has been spent at a keyboard. Every key is carved in solid oak with its label engraved on top. Beside the keyboard sits a laser-engraved black anodized aluminum tribute plate where a trackpad would be, and the open oak carries the emblems that defined their work. It is a farewell gift that makes everyone in the room stop and look closer.

Carved Wooden Keyboard Tribute Plaque

A tribute to the work, and to the person

This piece was designed for a soldier leaving a role where the days were measured in keystrokes. A plain plaque did not seem like enough, so we carved the tool of the trade itself.

The keyboard is cut into a thick oak board on our CNC machine. Each key stands up on its own with a small gap around it, just like the real thing, and its label is engraved on top. Below the keys, where a laptop’s trackpad would be, a laser-engraved black anodized aluminum plate carries the tribute message. The rest of the face is open for emblems; on the original, a rank insignia and a career-field badge are set in black.

It sits flat on a desk or stands on a plate easel, and it is equally at home as a farewell for an IT specialist, a system administrator, an executive assistant, or a writer. It is a display piece carved from solid wood, not a working keyboard.

Features

  • Carved keyboard: every key cut individually, with its label engraved.
  • Solid oak body with a routed, rounded edge.
  • Tribute plate: laser-engraved black anodized aluminum plate with name, title, dates, and a message.
  • Emblems: insignia or logos inlaid or engraved in black.

Make it yours

  • Tribute plate: name, title, dates, and a message of thanks.
  • Emblems: rank insignia, a career-field or unit badge, a company logo, or initials.
  • Key highlights: color in a few keys to spell a nickname or inside joke. Ask us in your order notes.

Materials and construction

The body is milled from thick oak. We lay out the keyboard on the computer, key by key, and our CNC machine carves it: first clearing the area around the keys, then shaping each key and engraving its label. The emblems and the tribute plate are added next. Finally the edges are rounded, the piece is sanded smooth, and it is finished with Walrus Oil Furniture Butter, an all-natural oil and wax finish.

The story behind this piece

It was built for a Sergeant First Class moving on from the West Virginia Army National Guard. The plate thanks them for their dedication, mentorship, and care for the soldiers they served, and wishes them the best in their next chapter. The keyboard was a nod to the work; the message was a nod to the person.

Care

Dust it with a soft, dry cloth, and wipe up spills soon after they happen. Keep it out of standing water, away from harsh cleaners, and out of long hours of direct sun. When the surface starts to look dry, rub in a little furniture oil or wax, let it sit a few minutes, and buff off the extra.

Build time and delivery

Every piece is made to order. If you would like a digital proof of the layout and lettering before we build, ask for one in your order notes. If you have a firm date, such as a retirement or farewell, enter it as your need-by date and we will tell you honestly whether we can meet it. We do not guarantee rush work.

We ship anywhere in the U.S., and the shipping cost is shown at checkout. We can ship directly to the person you are honoring. Frequently asked questions

Is it a working keyboard?

No. It is solid wood, carved to look like a keyboard: a display piece, not a computer accessory.

Can the keyboard have a different layout?

Yes. We can carve a compact layout, a numeric keypad, or keys spelling a name. Ask in your order notes or through our contact form, and we will tell you what fits.

Can you make one for a civilian retirement?

Absolutely. Swap the military emblems for a company logo, a department name, or initials.

Have something else in mind?
