Frequently Asked Questions and Policies

These are the working rules I use for inquiries, estimates, design approval, payment, delivery, returns, and problems. The accepted written estimate controls the details of a particular order.

Project Fit, Quotes, and Timing

What does the shop make, and what might you decline?

I build custom and small-batch woodworking, including awards and plaques, signs and engraving, cutting boards and serving pieces, flags and wall art, desk and coin displays, personalized gifts, and house-number or outdoor décor. Computer Numerical Control carving, laser engraving, epoxy resin, and three-dimensional printing may support the woodwork when they fit the design.

I may decline extremely large work, unsafe designs, jobs that do not fit my tools or private shop, work that cannot be delivered or shipped reasonably, customer-supplied lumber, protected material I cannot accept, and hate-based or racist content.

How do I request a quote?

Use the Contact page or email contactvern@vernswoodworking.com. Include the intended use, rough dimensions, quantity, style or personalization, budget range, target date, and city, state, and ZIP code. Sketches and inspiration photographs are welcome.

How quickly will I hear back, and how long does production take?

I normally reply within one to three business days. A typical production estimate is approximately seven to ten days, but complexity, material availability, resin curing, current workload, and delivery or shipping can change that. The timing is an estimate, not a guarantee, unless a date is confirmed in writing for the order.

Do you guarantee rush work?

No. Tell me about a firm date when you inquire. I will consider it, but I do not guarantee rush work and may decline a deadline that does not leave enough time to build, finish, cure, package, or deliver the piece properly.

Design Approval, Deposits, and Payment

How do design revisions and final approval work?

Reasonable revisions can be made before final design approval. Once you approve the design and work begins, further revisions are not included. A later change may be declined or may require a revised price and completion estimate.

Are deposits always required?

No universal deposit applies. A deposit or other initial payment is decided case by case and stated in the written estimate. Final payment is due before shipping or delivery unless the accepted estimate says otherwise. An unpaid item is not shipped.

What payment methods are accepted?

Accepted methods are PayPal, credit or debit card processed through PayPal, Venmo, and cash for an agreed local delivery. Payment instructions are provided directly. Do not send card or account information through the inquiry form or ordinary email.

Delivery, Shipping, Returns, and Problems

How do local delivery, pickup, and shipping work?

For an accepted order of at least $75, free local delivery may be offered within 50 miles of Charleston, West Virginia. A smaller order may qualify when delivery can be coordinated with travel I am already making. I do not offer customer pickup, workshop visits, or installation.

Orders outside the local area are shipped when the piece can be packaged and transported safely. Packaging and shipping charges are stated in the listing or written estimate. Large, heavy, fragile, or unusually shaped work does not come with a free-shipping promise.

What can be returned?

A ready-made, nonpersonalized item may be returned within 30 days if it is unused and in its original condition. The customer pays ordinary return shipping. Original shipping is not refunded unless the return resulted from my error.

Custom and personalized items are final sale unless they arrive damaged, are defective, or were made incorrectly by the shop.

What happens if approved information is wrong?

You are responsible for names, dates, spelling, dimensions, and other personalization that you approve. If the approved information is wrong, remaking the piece is not included. If I make the error, I will repair or replace the piece at no additional cost.

What should I do about shipping damage?

Report shipping damage within five days of delivery. Keep the item and all packaging, and send photographs of the item, packaging, shipping label, and damaged area while the claim is reviewed.

Materials, Variation, Care, and Artwork

Are wood and resin variations defects?

Wood grain, color, knots, mineral streaks, resin patterns, and minor handmade differences naturally vary. Those differences are not defects unless a particular feature was agreed to in writing and the finished piece does not match that agreement.

How should I care for the piece?

Item-specific care instructions control because the right care depends on the material, finish, and intended use. In general, clean spills promptly, avoid soaking and harsh cleaners, and protect the piece from prolonged moisture, extreme heat, and conditions the item was not built to handle.

Can I supply artwork, a logo, or protected material?

You may submit artwork or an inspiration image, but submission does not guarantee acceptance. Branded, copyrighted, trademarked, protected, and insignia-based material is reviewed case by case. I may require proof of permission or decline the request.

Can I supply the lumber?

No. I use lumber I source for the job so I can evaluate the material, moisture, condition, movement, and suitability before I build with it.

Privacy, Photographs, and Content Standards

Will you photograph or publish my project?

You may request privacy. Permission to photograph and display the completed work is handled separately from the order. I do not publish customer names, addresses, faces, unit details, personal messages, or other identifying information without specific permission.

What content will you refuse?

I refuse hate-based or racist content. Other protected, branded, organizational, military, police, fire, veteran, or insignia-based requests are reviewed individually and may require proof of permission.
